BRISTOL COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY 'S OFFICE VICTIM/WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The primary responsibility of the DA is to prosecute individuals charged with crimes. Success is not possible without the cooperation of victims and witnesses. In the wake of an incident, the victim/witness advocates in our office seek to ensure that the criminal justice system treats victims and witnesses with the dignity, respect and compassion they deserve. The advocate guides individuals through the sometimes-confusing criminal justice system. Through notification of court dates, assistance with compensation, guidance in completion of impact statements, safety planning, assistance with property return, referrals to the appropriate local agencies for services and many other services. AMERICAN RED CROSS OF MASSACHUSETTS BAY SOUTH COAST AREA (SCAO)

Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently. The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources. Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross quickly sends emergency communications to deployed service members on behalf of their family. Military members can have peace of mind knowing that when they are on a mission, in training or stationed far from home––and leaving cell phones and e-mails behind––they are still connected to home. Health & Safety Based in communities across our jurisdiction, Red Cross instructors each year certify an average of 7 million people in Red Cross health and safety courses, which include Red Cross CPR, first aid, lifeguard training and swimming. These courses in turn help make our communities healthier and safer places live. Red Cross chapters provide instructors at the workplace to teach these courses and others such as back injury prevention, stress management, and work place violence. Full service contracts are available. These all inclusive packages cater to the clients needs and course specifications. Health and safety courses are open to the public. Youth Services The American Red Cross educates, encourages and empowers youth to be role models in their communities so, as current and future leaders, they can further the mission and fundamental principles of the Red Cross and touch more lives nationwide and around the world.
